Student Leadership Team
Listening to students and developing their leadership skills is important at SMRT. We have a strong student leadership system that starts with tutor representatives. These feed into Year Council meetings which take place at least once a term.
At least once a term, there is a whole Student Council meeting with representatives from each Year Council to propose ideas that will positively impact the whole School community and review progress.
There are other forums for student leadership across the School. They meet regularly to plan events, fundraise and impact change in a variety of ways. They also take on leadership roles across the School, from supporting younger students to running clubs. Many of our School events are organised and led by our student leaders, from ‘Culture Day’ and ‘Redcliffe’s Got Talent’ through to fundraising for our partner school in Uganda.
As a church School, we also develop the spiritual leadership qualities of our students and encourage them to lead worship, at House Eucharist services and at whole-School services. We have a student chaplaincy team that is subdivided into 3 groups: Buddy Chaplains, Community Chaplains and Worship Chaplains. These students have to apply for the role and then go through a selection process.
Our Buddy Chaplains pastorally support younger students in the School. They particularly try to help some of our more vulnerable and detached students engage with School life.
Our Community Chaplains work as a team to organise various charity and community events. These are usually whole-School and range from Food Bank donations to awareness-raising events for those seeking sanctuary.
Our Worship Chaplains seek to develop our School's collective worship services so that they are inclusive, invitational and inspirational.
All of our student leaders and chaplains are coached to develop their leadership skills so that they grow and flourish, giving them lifelong skills and attitudes.
