We Value Diversity and Choice - Y9 Options to Choose GCSE Subjects

Choosing GCSE options can feel like a daunting process, so we try and do all we can to help students to make the right choices for them so that they can develop the skills, knowledge and Alive qualities which will allow them to make their unique contribution to the world. 

Year 9s have already had ViP and careers input designed to help them make the right choices. During Term 3, Year 9 students should gather as much information as possible about the different options available and discuss their thoughts with parents and carers, tutors and subject teachers. Some students will also be given an interview by Mr Taylor – our Deputy Headteacher; Ms Williams – our SENDCo; learning mentors or other members of staff, to help them to make sensible decisions.

Students, parents and carers should use the Options Information Evening on 4 February and the Year 9 Parents and Carers Evening on 25 March to find out more about which subjects to choose for Years 10 and 11.

All students study a mixture of core subjects and options subjects. Details of the different subjects can be found below:

• Combined Science (Compulsory) & Separate Sciences (Bi, Ch and Ph) (Optional)
• English Language (Compulsory)
• English Literature (Compulsory)
• Mathematics (Compulsory)
• Religious Studies (Compulsory)
• Values in Practice (Compulsory, non-examined)
