Rewards

Rewards at SMRT

A reward is a clear marker to acknowledge the positive behaviours, values and attributes we wish to foster in our young people. Young people deserve credit when their behaviour and actions impact positively on their learning, personal growth and the wider school community. This is so that they are prepared for life beyond school, fulfil their potential, and be ‘fully Alive.’

The St Mary Redcliffe & Temple School reward structure is based on the Alive values for which Alive Points are allocated. These are to recognise and celebrate effort, achievement and living out the school’s Alive values.

The Purpose of Alive Points:

  • To motivate and encourage students.
  • To recognise achievement.
  • To underpin and promote the characteristics of being a successful learner
  • To promote a culture of achievement and hard work.
  • To foster a healthy atmosphere of competition between individuals and Houses.

How Do Students Earn Alive Points?

Alive points are linked to the Alive values, and examples of what students can be rewarded for include:

  • High quality classwork or homework.
  • Helping others.
  • Showing determination and effort.
  • Successful achievement and/or significant progress in tests.
  • Putting themselves out for others.
  • Representing the school and participation in competitions.
  • Outstanding attendance.

Alive points are allocated individually. However, 10 Alive points are allocated to students for making an outstanding contribution to the school.

Awards Linked to Alive Points

We recognise that praise and positive feedback is the key to developing effective relationships and creating a positive learning atmosphere in the classroom and across the school. It is also essential in promoting the self-motivation and efficacy of learners.

To generate a positive culture and ethos, we use a tiered system of awards tied to net Alive Points (Alive Points minus Behaviour Points).  Heads of House lead Celebration Assemblies at the end of Terms 2, 4 and 6 to recognise those attaining the most net Alive Points and distribute awards. These include:

  • Tutor treats
  • Termly certificates for the highest net Alive points
  • Entry into prize draws (e.g. for Amazon vouchers)
  • Golden tickets to enjoy an end-of-term treat (e.g. doughnut and film in Main Hall)

Communication Home

We will also endeavour to recognise students who go ‘above and beyond’ our expectations by informing parents/carers of successes. The home/school partnership is fundamental to young people’s success, so:

  • Heads of Year will write home to acknowledge significant progress and success.
  • The Headteacher will write home in cases of exceptional effort, success or outstanding contributions.

House Competition

There are added incentives for students in Houses to work together to earn Alive points for the Houses:

  • Weekly leader boards in the Pulse tracking Alive Points and attendance for the houses.
  • Individual and House team accomplishments will be publicised in the Pulse
  • At the end of Term church services, Houses with the most Alive Points, best attendance and competition winners will receive trophies and awards.
  • End-of-term treats for the tutor groups with the most Alive Points and best attendance.
  • In Term 6, the House with the most Alive points will have an afternoon off timetable for some fun activities (e.g. outdoor activities, ice-cream).
