Engagement, Behaviour and Contribution Levels

During a student’s time in Sixth Form we will be supporting them in regularly reflecting on their academic engagement, wider behaviours, contribution to the wider community and society and readiness for the world of work and university, where they will need a set of transferable skills and attitudes which it is our job to build in them.

Using the standards and descriptors we will start with the assumption that students have the basic qualities that we expect to begin their A Level journey (Level B) and be looking out for positive evidence that they are showing the higher standards they should be aiming for. These levels will be reviewed each term. If they fall below our basic expectations students can expect to see the Heads of Department or Pastoral Team getting involved to give them the structure and support the need to put things right.

These levels are reviewed by your teachers throughout the year and fed back to you and your Parents/Carers through gradesheets and when there are any changes.

If a student is identified as at Engagement Level C they can expect a structured support plan to be put in place giving clear targets and deadlines for improvement. This will be shared with Parents/Carers and the teacher will monitor things for improvement and will consider options including additional support and after school homework catch-up sessions.

If they don’t show sufficient engagement with this plan or things worsen then at Engagement Level D the Head of Year and Parents/Carers will be very involved in addressing this, and beyond that so will be the Head of Sixth Form.

Behaviour Level

In addition to a separate engagement level for each subject, each student also is placed on one overall behaviour level. This level is reviewed by the pastoral team regularly and fed back through gradesheets and when there has been a change. They consider a student’s behaviours in and around the school, including attendance and punctuality and interactions with others. It can also reflect engagement, and ‘behavior for learning’, if there is a pattern across multiple subjects. If a student is identified as at Behaviour Level C they can expect a conversation to take place with their tutor which sets some clear targets and deadlines for improvement. This will be shared with parents/carers will see this and the tutor will monitor things for improvement. A student might find that they are referred for some additional support from our pastoral team.

If a student doesn’t show sufficient engagement with this plan or things worsen then at Behaviour Level D the Head of Year and Parents/Carers will be very engaged, and beyond that so will be the Head of Sixth Form.

In one-to-one tutorials students will be helped to self-evaluate how they are developing in their positive impact beyond themselves, and in the evidence they have of the skills, qualities and experiences which are likely to significant impress future employers. Much of this evidence will be from outside of school, so this is not a grade we can give to students but one we will help them honestly to give themselves, so they can reflect on how best to build up that evidence in order to make strong future applications.
