We Are Interdependent

Weekly Worship from Mrs Duzniak.

  • Would you rather have no fingers or no toes?
  • Would you rather have hair all over your body or no hair at all?
  • Would you rather no elbows or no knees?

The human body is a living example of interdependence. Every organ, muscle, tissue, ligament, bone has a part to play and without each one of them our bodies would not work as well as they do!

Here are two Bible readings that describe the importance of interdependence in the body and what it means for us as a community.

The eye cannot say to the hand, “I don’t need you!” And the head cannot say to the foot, “I don’t need you!” No! Those parts of the body that seem to be the weaker are really necessary...God put the body together and gave more honour to the parts that need it… Together you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of that body.1 Corinthians 12:21-27

Each one of us has a body with many parts, and these parts all have different uses. 5 In the same way, we are many, but in Christ we are all one body. Each one is a part of that body, and each part belongs to all the other parts. We all have different gifts, each of which came because of the grace God gave us.Romans 12:4-6

Being interdependent means valuing the importance of every single person in our community and realising that they have a part to play. It is also about recognising that God is with us, and he holds all of us together.

As you watch this film, think about how you can show people in your lessons this week that you value their contribution to our school community.  How can you make sure that you play your part to build our school community into an even better place?

Prayer

Dear God, thank you that you hold all things together.  Thank you that we can depend on you in the good times and the bad.  Thank you that you have given all of us gifts so that we can build a strong community.  Help us to follow your example and work together.  Amen
