Weekly Worship from Mrs Duzniak

On Sunday 22 June it was ‘Windrush Day’ – do you know what this day is all about?

Have a short discussion as a class to see if you know why it is a special day in the calendar.

Now watch this film to see if you were right!

Were you surprised by anything you saw?

Our ALIVE value this week is: We value Justice and Respect. Do you think the migrants in the Windrush generation were treated with justice and respect?

Here is a poem that was written by someone who is part of the Windrush generation.

What can we learn from history? How can we do things differently today?

Who are the migrants in our community today? Are we treating them with justice and respect?

The Bible says this in Leviticus:

Do not mistreat foreigners living in your country. Treat them just as you treat your own citizens. Love foreigners as you love yourselves.Leviticus

Prayer

Dear Lord, thank you for all the different countries and cultures represented in our school, city and country. Thank you for the richness that this brings to our lives. Help us to be kind and welcoming to all. Help us to stand up for injustice, using our gifts and talents to support those who have no voice. Thank you for all that the Windrush generation and all other migrants have done and continue to do for us in this country.
Amen
