Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome to our final newsletter of the calendar year. Term 2 has been very busy and productive some of the highlights included hosting a teacher (John) and student (Brigid) from our Ikoba School which is our partner school in Uganda. It was also a pleasure to have world famous author Arshay Cooper speak to our Year 9 students and sign copies of his latest bestselling book, ’Let Me Be Real with You’. We have also had our sixth form Rag Week talent show and our main school ‘Redcliffe Got Talent show. Massive thanks to all staff who have supported these events and to our students for their excellent engagement. Our sports teams have been involved in a number of fixtures and I am grateful to their commitment and the support of all the staff who make not only the fixtures but the training possible.
Wel done to Year 11 who have engaged incredibly well with the mock exam results assembly and related activities.
Finally, it has been incredibly rewarding to see our students and the wider community benefit from a range of opportunities and experiences through our charity BS1 Alive Cradle to Career Hub . I will write to parents/carers in the new year to share some of the highlights.
End of Term Service and Carol Concert
This week we have enjoyed a wonderful carol service and a celebratory end of year of carol service. Both events were held in St Mary Redcliffe Church, and were occasions of worship and community. The quality of musicianship and the singing from the choir is always so impressive. Thank you to all who came and participated.
Safeguarding
We have included information about sources of mental health support for parents/carers and students over the holiday period that you might find helpful (towards the end of this section of this newsletter). If there is an emergency, or you think that you or your child is at immediate risk of harm, you should call 999 and speak to the police.
Start of Term
All students return to school after the holiday on Monday 5 January 2026.
Year 11 Parent/Carer Evening
This will take place on Wednesday 7 January. It is a critical time for our Year 11 students so please do make the most of this opportunity. If any Year 11 parents/carers still have any concerns or questions after these meetings, or if you were unable to make all the appointments you would have liked, please do get in touch with your child’s teacher, or a member of the relevant pastoral team (Tutor, Deputy Head of Year or Head of Year) for more general issues or if your child is experiencing anxiety around exams.
Dates for the other year groups parent/carer meetings can be found on the school calendar on our website.
Parent/Carer Contact Details
Do make sure the school has your most up to date phone and email details, and that your child’s emergency contact list is up to date, as this will assist us in reaching someone, should we need to make contact in an emergency. Parents/carers can find information about how to do this online via our website, and scrolling down to the Specific Options section (How to View and Update your Personal Data and your Child’s Data).
Community News
We have said goodbye to Mrs Williams, one of our administrators, who has been supporting our pastoral leaders for many years. She is starting her retirement, and we wish her many happy years ahead! I know that her colleagues will miss her very much.
Mr Tallack (English) and Mrs Baggaley (Geography) are leaving us having been covering maternity leave, and we wish them both well in their next steps. Ms Dry (KS5 Learning Support Coordinator) is leaving us for a new post, as is Mrs Faircloth (DT) and Ms Maddix (Cover Supervisor). We are grateful to them all for their contributions to their teams and students in the time they’ve been with us and wish them well in their new posts. We are also saying goodbye to our HR Business Partner, Mrs Ben Hajria, who is leaving us for a promoted HR post early in the new year. Most parents/carers and students won’t know her, but she has played a critical role in supporting our staff. We wish her well.
Dr Lynch (Geography) has returned from maternity leave and it’s lovely to have her back with us. We have been joined by Miss Cooley (Learning Mentor) just before the holiday, and look forward to welcoming Ms Chapman, who is taking over from Ms Dry as part of the Learning Support Team, and Ms Nash, who will be covering the Deputy SENDCo (KS3) role while Ms Mullins is on maternity leave.
Mrs Roberts (Deputy Head of Year 8) will be reducing her hours at the start of next term and so arrangements will be put in place to cover her role and teaching. We will be able to share more about this next term.

Merry Christmas!
It has been a term where we have seen a lot of illness, and I am hoping that the holiday period will allow time for rest and recuperation.
Christmas is a time when we remember God taking on our humanity to bring peace between himself and humankind. In our society the Christmas season can be a time of worry, grief and loneliness as well of one of joy, celebration and gratitude. I would like to encourage us all from the words of Philippians 4:4-7.
4 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! 5 Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Mr Planter
