Sequencing, Setting and Support

The curriculum follows on from KS3, building on key concepts of fluency, problem-solving and reasoning. Learning is sequenced so that knowledge and skills are built upon throughout the course to support further learning both in the short and medium term.

In Key Stage 4 (Years 10 & 11) students are also set into 3 groups: Higher, Middle or Support and study either Edexcel Foundation or Higher Tier GCSE, building on the knowledge and understanding they have developed at Key Stage 3.

Our curriculum is fully resourced to support SEND students. Notes are provided on printed sheets that can be coloured for dyslexic learners or printed with the Open Dyslexic font. Lessons are continuously adapted to cater for the learning needs of individuals. Learning support staff work closely with teachers and support classes that are small to offer specialised individual support to students.

We also offer a GCSE equivalent qualification in Further Mathematics for more able students in year 11, and an Entry Level Certificate in Mathematics in KS4 for our support group of students to help build their confidence and skills in Mathematics.

Homework and how Parents/Carers Support Learning

All homework is set on Bromcom which is an app and website available to students and parents/carers. Further information is available on our Homework page.

These are the principles which underpin our homework.

As you are aware, completing homework and revising regularly is essential in learning and retaining mathematical skills and knowledge. To help, the school has invested in an online resource called Sparx Maths.

Your child has been issued with a Sparx Maths homework book and a student account so that they can access the website and complete the work both online and in the homework books.

Sparx Maths will automatically mark students' work. The class teacher will then consolidate the homework in class and mark the exercise books every fortnight.

Should your child not have access to the internet or computer at home, please let us know so that we can help.

Sparx Maths will send you a weekly email reminding you that your child has Maths homework to complete.
