Valuing our Staff

At SMRT we are a family and community. We recognise that our support and teaching staff are central to the success and wellbeing of our students. We are committed to ensuring that our colleagues flourish in line with our belief that each member of our school community is created by God and our aim is to achieve our full potential (being fully alive). All we do is rooted in this hope of who we are as people and who we can become. We are particularly inspired by Jesus’ statement ‘I have come that you might have life and life in all its fullness’ (John 10 v10) and Irenaeus’ ‘the glory of God is a human being fully alive’.

We recognise our staff through simple touches such as Hero of the Week and birthday cards. Leaders and governors are reflective, approachable and mindful of staff wellbeing.

We have an ambitious programme of staff development that recognises the importance of excellence in pedagogy, pastoral care, support roles and the necessity of a manageable workload. We consider support staff, teachers and leaders in each phase of their development and have a Support Staff Action Working group with SLT representation.

Our programmes and support are diverse, focused, and coordinated according to need.  We draw on current educational research and we value opportunities to work collaboratively with professional bodies such as the Chartered College of Teaching, STEM, Church of England NPQs, our local universities, and our local Teaching School Hub. We are a delivery partner for the Church of England NPQs and play a key role in the National Secondary Leaders’ Network with the Church of England.
