Practical Steps to GMH: Talking
When we say things out loud, especially to someone who is listening, we often make more sense of things that are happening to us. We use phrases like ‘I did that because…’ or ‘I think what happened was..’ or ‘maybe they were thinking about…’ to try and figure out what has been going on, and then how we feel about it. Talking to anyone about how we really feel is not only useful for our problem solving and our perspective on our narrative, but also a great way to maintain healthy mental practices. It could be a friend, a relative, your tutor, a learning mentor, your GP or a helpline like Childline. Talking to someone about or our problems, or the things that have been happening to us, promotes good mental health.
