Lent 5

Weekly Worship from Chaplain Josh

What’s the best party you’ve been to?

We all love a party and any reason to throw a party!

At the end of the story of the prodigal son, we see the father host a huge party to celebrate the son coming home! Choose someone to read out what happened:

22 “But the father said to his servants, ‘Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. 23 Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let’s have a feast and celebrate. 24 For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ So they began to celebrate.

25 “Meanwhile, the older son was in the field. When he came near the house, he heard music and dancing. 26 So he called one of the servants and asked him what was going on. 27 ‘Your brother has come,’ he replied, ‘and your father has killed the fattened calf because he has him back safe and sound.’

The father threw a party because he was overwhelmed with the joy that his son was home. God responds the same way when any one of us start to have faith in Him and follow Jesus.

We see this message again in the Bible. It reads, ‘I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.’

This means there is rejoicing in heaven when anyone decides to come back to God. A whole party! It’s a pretty cool thought that God throws a party, even when just one person repents and comes back to Him!

God loves you so much, even to the point that he will throw a huge celebration when you have faith in Him.

Let’s start the day listening to this tune, celebrating God’s goodness and how much he loves us!
