I Am Interdependent 2

Over the last 18 months, we have been advised to wear face masks in various places. Talk to the person next to you about these two questions:

1. Why have we been told to wear masks?
2. How have you felt about wearing masks, has it been easy/difficult?

We were all advised to wear masks to protect ourselves and also protect those around us. In fact, most of the rules that we have followed to help stop the spread of the virus have been put in place so that collectively we can help to keep everyone safe.

This is a real-life example of interdependence. What I do has an impact on you and what you do has an impact on me. The Coronavirus Pandemic has forced every country in the world to become more interdependent and think about the needs of everyone as well as themselves.

Just like wearing a mask or washing your hands, recognising that we are interdependent takes time and effort. But together we can achieve so much more than we can on our own and we all have a part to play. This is what the Bible says,

‘From Him, The whole body grows, fitted and held together through every supporting ligament. As each one does its part, the body builds itself up in love.

Ephesians 4:16

Dear Lord, We thank you that we all have a part to play, no one is useless and everyone matters. Help us to recognise our role in making the world a safer and better place. Help us to remember that we are all interdependent and need each other as much as we are needed. Thank you that you see us as important and help us to see that in ourselves and others.
