During Key Stage 3, students follow a curriculum that develops students’ mathematical understanding and aims to ensure that all pupils: become fluent in the fundamentals of mathematics; are able to reason mathematically by enquiring, generalising and developing mathematical arguments; can solve problems by applying their mathematical knowledge in a variety of contexts with increasing complexity.

The department runs Numeracy sessions for students identified as requiring extra support with their mathematics. These sessions are in addition to their normal maths lessons and run throughout Key Stage 3.

We also offer a programme of study for Gifted and Talented students. All students in the top sets take part in the UKMT Mathematical Challenges and there are opportunities to participate in other activities/competitions with other schools in years 8 and 9. The UKMT mentoring scheme is used for very able students throughout the school.
