Why should you complete the Duke of Edinburgh's award?
Students will develop the skills and attitudes they need to become more rounded, confident adults. Whilst developing qualities that colleges, universities and employers are attracted to. These include but are not limited to: Increased self-belief and confidence, sense of responsibility, learning new skills, problem-solving, communication, leadership and team work skills.
What is the Duke of Edinburgh's Award?
The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is a Charity that has been working with young people from all backgrounds for more than half a century.
There are 4 sections to complete:
Volunteering: Giving service to individuals or the community. This cannot be for a business or family member but can be for a charity or for a not-for-profit organisation:
Physical: Improving in an area of sport, dance or fitness activities:
Skills: Developing practical and social skills and personal interests:
Expedition: Planning, training for and completing a supervised adventurous journey as one of a team in the UK or abroad:
The awards gained are nationally and internationally recognised. On successful completion of the Gold Award, participants are invited to St James's Palace to receive their awards from a member of the royal family.
If you are struggling to find an activity for any of the sections, DofE have a helpful opportunity finder which may be able to help you find something in your local community:
